Train the Trainers Workshop 2023

For us at OFWA we kickstarted the year with our first in-person program by hosting the annual Train the Trainer workshop (TOT). In our pursuit to extend our reach beyond just the capital of Ghana, we work hand in hand with community volunteers by creating wiki hubs in their respective regions and empowering them to facilitate open activities there.

Each year, we host a two-day workshop aimed at equipping hub and club leads with the knowledge and skills required to improve their effectiveness in their respective roles. The main objective for the workshop is to equip hub leaders with basic knowledge on how to manage their hubs as well as how to effectively deliver training to their members.

Also, the workshop was designed to be a platform for new hub leaders to draw inspiration and learn from the experienced ones through their shared stories, ordeals, and knowledge in their journey as hub leads.

The session entailed courses on Wikipedia,  Wikidata tools and games, Wikimedia Commons, Hub Management, Movement Strategy and other courses. This gave new hub leads the opportunity to be introduced to learn new skills and tools that could enhance their impact in their respective communities.

We acknowledge our team Eugene Makafui Masiku, Ruby D- Brown, Gameli Kofi-Bediako at OFWA, for the excellent training sessions  and moderation of the program. We are grateful and acknowledge DnShitobu for delivering a training on Wikidata and Max Beganim for also delivering a training on Kiwix4schools project.

The trainees were drawn from some of our hubs in Ghana namely Walewale, Tamale, Bono East, Kumasi, Ho, UHAS club and Accra Wiki Hub.

On the last day of the workshop, trainees were treated to a short tour of the historical Black Star Square in the capital of the city.  Trainers from outside Accra were amazed to learn about the history of the square for the first time.

Follow us on all our social media platforms for all the activities our vibrant hub leads have planned out for the year!
