Founders Day Ghana - DTI Writing Contest 2021

Founders Day Ghana Writing Contest 2021

Apart from the famous Big Six of Ghana and a few heroes that contributed to the independence of Ghana, which other pioneer is being projected on the internet???

What were the activities that led up to the formation and foundation of Ghana? The food they ate, the clothes they wore, the songs they sang, etc., and who tells these stories and that of our unsung heroes on the web?

Since 2019, the 4th of August has been declared as Founders’ Day in Ghana. Founders’ Day is a day meant to commemorate the pioneers and forefathers who led the way towards the independence of Ghana.

We at  Open Foundation West Africa in our quest to promote content about Africa on Wikipedia and on the web in general introduced the Founders Day Ghana Writing Contest. The campaign makes a simple ask of all of us; to contribute an article about personalities and activities that led up to Ghana’s independence. It's an opportunity to share our country's rich culture and history, create visibility, and change the narrative about our history.

In our second edition, we are collaborating with the Goethe Institute to commemorate the emancipation fight of the founders of this noble land earmarked for 4th August in Ghana. The theme for this year is "Decolonizing the internet through Founders Day Writing Contest."

We are dedicating the month of August to commemorate, celebrate and educate the populace about this day by encouraging the curation or creation of related content or articles on Wikipedia.
