Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) is a non profit organization that seeks to extend
and reach of the open movement in the West African sub-region, through open education programs,
resources, preserving cultural and heritage items and promoting contents about the West African
Sub-region and its
OFWA started operations in 2015 and was officially incorporated in 2016. OFWA is a recognised local
Wikimedia and Creative Commons. OFWA has taken part in some international photo contest projects
like Wiki Loves
Monuments and continental advocacy campaigns such as #FASTAfrica, organized by Web We Want and A4AI
fast, affordable, safe and transparent internet in Africa.
We have also played a significant role in supporting open communities on the continent and we are
continuing to work with community leaders from across the continent to promote and create awareness
resources as well as build the capacities of the youth on newer open technologies to bridge the
and information gap in Africa.
Creating the awareness of all available open resources, promoting their use and sharing the benefits
contributing towards the future of education and open learning.
Aiding more people to understand and use open resources as a basis for improving the quality and
